Back to School

It's the first week of school here!  To me, it marks the unofficial end to summer - back to schedules and routines.  In general,  I like routine - but summer is just special - lazy evenings and life seems calmer.   Super-son started middle school this year - a new chapter in life.  I was incredibly anxious but after open house something inside just told me he was ready.    Even though I'm not the one back in class - I'm exhausted!   It's one thing to throw on clothes to go exercise at 530a but it's another to get up and start your morning routine (shower, dress, make breakfast, get son up, etc, etc) and out the door by 6:45a prepared to take on the day.  We are learning and adjusting.

Do you like the lazy days of summer?   Or do you prefer the routine (and sometimes chaos) of the school year?

Quick Update

Sorry for the lack of posts... a few quick updates
  • I followed doctor's orders and didn't run for 2.5 weeks.
  • I went to physical therapy -- it's amazing how much that helped.  They gave me the green light to run.  It sounds as though my pain is not related to arthritis in my SI joint, but rather from a disc issue.
  • I finally finished the directed study hanging over my head from last semester - DONE!   Now, I'm attempting to focus on this semester.  Realizing last night, I overlooked a MAJOR deadline for next Wednesday & need to crank out an 8 page paper this weekend.
  • I spent this past weekend at Atlantic Beach for the Crystal Coast 5K.  I'll try to post an update on that soon.
  • Still doing boot camp on M-W-F mornings & walking (but now can go back to intervals) on T-Th mornings.
That's it for now -- just wanted to let you know I'm still around just busy!

Procrastination

Ugh. I'm not a procrastinator really, I'm not.  Am I denial?   LOL

In my 20s, the only thing I procrastinated on was doing housework, keeping laundry caught up, filling my gas tank up when the light came on, and staying organized.  Seriously, that's pretty much all I can remember putting on the back burner.

Then as I approached 30, a certain little fella - super-son came along and suddenly the things listed above weren't quite as optional, but more like priorities!   I became more domesticated and enjoyed making our house a home more than ever before.

In my late 30s,  I returned to school and my family was still a priority.  Now, I find myself procrastinating on school work in the worst possible way.  To my credit, last semester I did stay on top of my senior research paper - I knew it would be impossible to catch up if I fell behind on writing 30 pages.  While staying on top of the paper (and receiving an A by the way),  I managed to put my directed study on the back burner.

The cool thing about directed studies - you move at your own pace and you get 3 months beyond the semester deadline to finish.  I was determined to enjoy the holidays with my family and "I'll get started on it after the New Year".   Now, it's nearly the end of January and I've just beginning to make a dent in the project!  Spring semester starts next Monday & I really need to get this finished and behind me, so I can move on to my three final classes.

I've said all that to say this... I may be quiet on the blog over the next couple of weeks, but I'm determined to not let the deadlines stress me!

Feel free to check in with me and ask about my progress  :)

Where have I been?

It's fall ... How's this picture for a flashback to 2001?   Super-son in his first Halloween costume.  Adorable?  Yes, I think so!

Well, y'all what can I say... school is back in session for me and super-son, so life is crazy busy.  It's a challenge to keep my head above water.  On a good note, after this semester I will have 2.66 (yes .66 classes) remaining which *cross my fingers* means I will graduate in the Spring.  Woohoo!

So what's new?
  • All house projects (painting, organizing) are on hold until the semester is over.  It's too much stress to have another ball in the air right now.
  • I had my yearly physical with my primary care physician this week.  All of my bloodwork is excellent & I had lost 14 lbs since last year's visit.  She gave me an A++.
  • I'm still exercising M-W-F at the crack of dawn 530am to be exact.  I'll try to post something on my new venture over the weekend.

Is it summer yet?

I had plan to write this really awesome post on exercise this morning & my journey on becoming more active. However, let's just say -- it was one of those mornings and I'd be better off to save that post for another day. I have alot of "irons in the fire" right now and I was exhausted last night. Work has been managable, but I have alot of projects at school right now (read that -- papers, papers, papers)... I'm stressing about fall semester which is how many months away! Seriously, I need to get it together! My plan for tonight is to crank out a 5 pg paper tonight and enjoy the weekend. We'll see how that goes! Enough whining!

I wanted to share this with you....

I mentioned my friend, Sally, earlier this week -- but she posted this afterwards and I had to share. She is an amazing and talented artist in my opinion! She has shared step-by-step instructions on creating these for your own walkway or garden. You can read more here.

I'm a nerd!

Last week was spring break for me! I had no tropical destination or sunny beach - I guess that's a disadvantage to being an adult student - LOL! I was able to get caught up on some things at home. Tonight was my first long night back. On Tuesdays, I have class until 6:45p, but on Thursday, I have classes back-to-back, so I don't finish until 9:45p. As luck would have it, the professor went over tonight - so I didn't leave campus until 10:05p!

On a good note, I made a "B+" on my second social statistics exam; an "A" on my history mid-term learning portfolio; and an "A" on my Signature mid-term paper! Over spring break, I met with Prof. H one of the advisors in the Learning Center. I wanted to make sure I knew what classes I had left to take. Good news: I was right! He talked me into doing something I said I would NEVER do again -- summer school! My plan had graduation in December 2012. I was really hoping for Spring 2012 and summer school this year will help make that a reality! OH YEAH!!!! I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel!
